Meet Jennifer Lewis! She's the brains behind Earth Explained. Jennifer has over 15 years of experience in higher education teaching and developing earth science and geology courses.

“i absolutely love earth science. i can’t go outside without picking up a cool rock, seeing a cool landform or just noticing something neat going on in the world around me.”

Jennifer completed her Bachelors of Science in Geology at San Diego State University, followed by a Masters of Science in Geology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. As an avid learner herself, Jennifer found her passion in teaching - particularly in sharing her love for the earth sciences by providing straight-forward explanations and high-quality, engaging online classes.

Jennifer was born and raised in San Diego, California, where she spent her childhood backpacking, paddling, surfing and sailing. She is an online instructor, mom of four, and perpetual explorer. Now located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, her family enjoys stepping out into the wild of Alberta on foot, by bike or canoe. Outside of the virtual classroom, you can usually find Jennifer camping in unfamiliar locations, as she thrives when learning about new landscapes.
